Overcoming the loss of a loved one, is the hardest thing we'll ever have to do. In memory of Donna Williams, and Chuck BB1, Williams

Chuck Williams, BB1

Donna Williams

As some of my followers know, I lost my sister, Donna Williams and my cousin, Chuck Williams, BB1 this past year and though I keep putting one foot in front of the other, it's still very hard to go on without them. It's easy to act like life is the same, act the same, show up and look the same, but inside my heart and soul, things aren't the same. A big part of who I was died with them, and has forced me to reinvent myself. My fear is, who will I be and will I like my new self. Will other's accept I've changed and will I even care about the things that were once so important to me.

My sister, Donna especially, sometimes Chuck as well, come to me in dreams and I don't want to wake up. When I do wake up,  I  remember their gone and relive their deaths, (both of Cancer) once again. I keep combing through every step I walked with them to see if I could have done something different to save their lives. I think I've been in "shock, denial," for months. Then I slip into anger.

I'm Angry they left me alone, angry I couldn't save them, angry at God, angry at life, angry and disillusioned. Separation anxiety and guilt cause me to break down and cry when a song that reminds me of them comes on the radio. I definitely feel them with me from time to time. I get little messages that they are around me sending me love, strength and the will to live and enjoy my life. But, they were my main support system, so losing them has stripped me of my normally confident persona, and left me being a scared child with a hole in my heart.

It's as if I lost my mom and dad, my best friends, my best halves. They are Saints in my mind. I can't remember all the things that drove me crazy about them, just the wonderful times remain. I don't think of them being sick, no, they are who they are when they were young and beautiful. That's who I miss in them, the parts that remind me of who I was when we were all young and beautiful. I know I will see them again, I know they are just in the other room, just over the horizon, just on the other side of the curtain. But, I miss their Charisma, laughter, sarcasm, cool, hep, always with it selves and that is something I can't bring back.

If anyone can relate to a loss of a loved one, parent, husband, wife, sister, brother, aunt, uncle, best friend, co worker, neighbor, Church member, or especially a child. My heart is with you dear ones, I know what your going through and I wish all of us peace, well being restored and our hearts mended, so we can recover and go on and do what we were put here to do. Love to you all.

Today, one of my best friends, Chuck Williams, lovingly known to many as BB1
(Beach Boys’ #1 fan), passed away. He was an enormous, wonderful friend and
a great fan. He even had a Beach Boys shrine in his home. I will truly miss him and the indomitable, passionate spirit he brought to life.
Peace & Love,
ML

"In the Ring with Cancer" my new blog documents my cousin Chuck Williams, BB1's fight with liver Cancer.

I've done many Blog posts about my infamous cousin Chuck Williams, known as BB1, because of his "Number one Fan" proclamation from Mike Love, of the "Beach Boys." He also ran the Santa Barbara Bowl, in the 70's and 80's, where he produced many Beach Boys concerts as well as many other well know rock bands.

BB1, is also known for being a "real car guy," owning many beautiful award winning automobiles and by his connection with Speed Vegas, a premiere car racing track just opening in Las Vegas. Racing is a hobby, but the love of his beautiful Pebble Beach Concours winning cars, is his passion.

I spent many hours writing my book, The Maybelline Story, at his beautiful home in Santa Barbara and we have always supported each other reaching our dreams.  So when Chuck, BB1, was diagnosed with liver Cancer last month, I decided to document his blow by blow experience on a Blog called
"In the Ring with Cancer."  Now everyone can check in and Cheer for him as he battles to hold the world title, "The Greatest," next to Muhammad Ali, his all time idol.

Only Superman can survive what lies ahead for BB1 and his fight with Cancer.

BB1 whips out his Superman - Man of Steal cape, after a telephone call about his upcoming Cancer Treatment. "It will change me" he said, "I feel confused, but I'm going to fight."  So, in the ring he goes with his deadly opponent.

The disturbing news was: They may get into the liver and find it's worse than expected. They may decide to take the tumor out, but he may still need a Liver Transplant. Chuck doesn't want to go in that direction. But, knows he has to do what ever it takes to beat Cancer.

One of the main questions asked by the Doctor, before being accepted for a possible Liver Transplant was, "How do you think you contacted Hep C?

When BB1 was a 15 year old kid, in 1964 he and a couple of buddies were in his friends garage making a pipe bomb to pull a prank, and it accidentally exploded in his face. Anyone else would have had their head blown off, but with quick reflexes, he turned his head and the metal hit and lodged in his chin. Blood was flying everywhere. The car windows were blown out. But, BB1 was still standing!

Wrapped in a sheet around his head he drove himself back home where his mother took one look at the blood and rushed him to the hospital. That's where the Hep C came. It was about the blood and though there was no transfusion, something happened that might not have happened today.  It sat dormant until 1999, when BB1 took a major fall and broke his ankle. After tests were made, the Hep C appeared. For the last 16 years he's had scans to test the liver with no bad results.  In September, the cirrhosis had turned to Cancer. Now only Superman can survive what lies ahead.

Stay tuned for more details BB1, fights for his life. Can he beat death? Can he come out holding the World Title? Will he hold the belt over his head?  Like the Beach Boys song goes,  "God only knows."

Clark Gables 1935 Duesenberg Model JN Convertible Coupe  by Gooding & Company was up for auction last weekend in Pebble Beach, California at the Concours d' Elegance.  Bidding went as high as $6.4 million but that wasn't high enough to meet the seller's predetermined "reserve" price, so this Duesenberg didn't sell.
The glamours Duesenberg played a part in Gable's famous relationship with Carole Lombard. The two met at a party after which they went for a long drive...and the rest is Hollywood history.

Of course all this talk about Hollywood glamour makes me think about my great uncle Tom Lyle Williams and his 1940 Packard Victoria, coachwork by Bohman and Schwartz.. Here it is today in this video.

WHO SAY'S THE MAYBELLINE STORY IS JUST FOR WOMEN?

REAL MEN LOVE THE MAYBELLINE STORY, ASK MY COUSIN BB1.

TIME Magazine - 1934
Much given to hyperbole and superlative is the U. S. cosmetics industry. High priests of the beauty business seldom fail to inject into any serious discussion of their industry the magic phrase: "Two Billion Dollars." Last week at a divisional meeting of the American Cosmeticians' Association in Chicago, Thomas Lyle Williams, President of Maybelline Co., was happy to report that the beauty business was running 15% to 20% ahead of last year. That, said Beautician Williams, would mean a $500,000,000 increase in volume for 1934, a grand total for the Industry of "$2,000,000,000."

After successfully arranging the Beach Boys luggage in the trunk of the car, BB1 tells Bruce Johnston to make sure he gets the 409 on his shirt and Al Jardine in the picture.  After viewing the photo,  all BB1 can say is, "stick with sound Bro."

Bruce Johnston wants to check out the drivers seat where BB1's father Noel A. Williams sat for 20 years.

BEACH BOYS, INTRODUCTION AND "DO IT AGAIN."

Stay tuned tomorrow for more exclusive pictures taken behind the scenes with BB1 and The Beach Boys.........

MEET BB1 AND THE BEACH BOYS IN SANTA BARBARA.

HERE IS WHY CHUCK WILLIAMS IS BB1.

Al Jardine thanked him for getting him back in the band after a long hiatus. (More on that story tomorrow.)

Mike Love thanked him for everything he's done to help make the 50 year reunion possible and told him to drop the aka from now on and just go as BB1..... "because that's who you are".....The Beach Boys Number one fan for over 40 years.

Bruce Johnston asked BB1 about the set for the Bowl that day and BB1 said joking around, "Hey Bruce, maybe we should skip Disney Girls, what do you think?"  Bruce thought about it, then agreed the song was more for LA... not Santa Barbara and dropped his own song from the list.

Brian Wilson was sitting at the piano and BB1 noticed his left hand vibrating a little so asked if that was the hand he used to write Surfer Girl and In My Room!"  Brian looked at him, shook his head, Yes and said, "I like your face."

....More to come, stay tuned tomorrow.
