A Match Made in Maybelline Heaven. Jean and Noel Williams Love Story

It was a freezing cold February morning in Chicago when the Bride arrived at the church soon to be wed to Maybelline Company's Vice President Noel James Williams son Noel Allen. Jean Kilroy and Allen met in High School and now 7 years later the wedding of the year was finally taking place in 1949.

The Bride assisted by her her parents.

200 guests waited patiently for the Bride to make her appearance as the Groom watched with quiet excitement next to his brother, and Best Man, Dick Williams.

Jean was a stunning Bride and it proved to be worth the wait to see the beautiful gown she chose to wear.

This was a true love match and Jean and Noel remained married until his death in 1994.

Nine months later on November 23, their first child, Charles Allen Williams was born. Chuck aka BB1, to all who knew him. Followed by Nancy Jean and James Noel Williams.

Noel and Jean never wavered in their loyalty to their vow's and Jean remained a widow devoted to her family until her death in 2006.

Now this is a Love Story

Four Generations of Beautiful Maybelline Brides

Maybelline featured a Bride and Groom, in this charming 1943 World War ll ad. Here is a gallery of four generations of Maybelline weddings in the Noel J. Williams line of the family

Mr. and Mrs. John B, Clark, (Kelly Brown) recently married in Colorado. They carry on the tradition of beautiful weddings set nearly 100 years ago.

John's mother, Nancy Williams Clark, at her wedding in California, 1976, carried the elegance set by her mother in the 1940's.

John's grandparents, Mr. and Mr. Noel Allen Williams at their wedding in Chicago, 1949. Noel and Jean were married for over 45 years.

John's great grandparents, Noel James Williams and Frances Allen married in 1916, in Morganfield Kentucky.

Noel was one of the original founders of the Maybelline Company, along with his brother Tom Lyle Williams and their sister and namesake Mabel Williams in 1915.

Two Generations of Maybelline cousin's, loved dressing up like Tom Mix and Roy Rogers - 1930s -1950s

Maybelline Cousins love Tom Mix in 193o's.

The Cadillac Cowboy, Tom Mix, pulled in $17,000 a week in the 1920's and was every little boys, Western Hero.

Maybelline cousin's, kid's, love Roy Rogers in the 1950s.

Maybelline Cousins in the 1950's - like their parents in the 1930's - loved to dress up like Cowboys and Cowgirls.

Roy Rogers, and Dale Evans were the King and Queen, of Saturday morning TV, from 1951 - 1957, most every girl and boy in America

had their own cowboy or cowgirl costume.

Here I am at my 6th Birthday, sitting on my dad, Bill Williams lap - a little amped on sugar it looks like - with my little sister Donna, sitting quietly on our grandfather, Andy Mac Donald's lap, while my grandmother Elna - who never wore eye makeup - smiles for the camera. Notice the Lucite coffee table, sofa and Hawaiian drapes. They came from the Villa Valentino, after it was destroyed, when the Hollywood freeway took it in 1951.

Trigger rides again, as Roy and Dale give a big Cowboy shout out, in the Old West. In 1954, all I wanted was a baby sister and brother, while Donna on the other hand, wanted a horse, just like Trigger.

My cousin's, Chuck, (aka, BB1,) and Nancy, Noel Allen Williams, kids, were the little Roy and Dale, of the family, and like us, they were crazy about Saturday morning television, on those tiny TV sets in the early 1950's.

During the early 1950's, Maybelline began showing Before and After, commercials, on network stations and it was a really big deal for our family when one came on.

Honoring the men in the Maybelline family who served in the Armed Forces

This Memorial Day marked the 7th anniversary of my father's death. I honor him and the Heroes in the Maybelline Family.

This is what Chicago looked like when my grandfather William Preston Williams joined the Navy in 1917. He was just 18 years old with visions of being a War Hero. Like so many boy's from the Lost Generation he imagined the war would quickly end and he'd return unscathed by the ravages of battle - only to be greatly disillusioned with a broken spirit.

This is what was going on in the Maybelline Family at the same time. Tom Lyle introduced Maybelline to the public as Silent Film became popular and Silent Film Stars were seen on screen with heavily made up eyes.

Theda Bara "THE VAMP" - 1917. This is what was going on in Hollywood when WW1 broke out. Women began to be conscious of the their eyes and buy Maybelline. An interesting fact - Maybelline was sent in an unmarked package insuring the buyer her privacy since Maybelline was so frowned upon at the time.

1917 Maybelline became available through mail order.

My grandfather, Preston Williams, with his parents Susan and TJ. His mother was grief stricken after already losing her first son, Pearl to TB and the thought of losing another son to War was too much for her. TJ on the other hand was proud his son was fighting for his Country like so many Patriots that went before him in the Williams Family. He also thought the Navy might straighten his wild card son up a bit.

Tom Lyle enlisted as well but was denyed service because he was the sole supporter of his entire family according to his draft card in 1917. Noel was married to Frances and also supported the family managing the Maybelline Company. He might have been too old for service at the time.
