Beauty Secret: Latisse increases volume of your eyelashes, making Maybelline's impact even more breathtaking

How to cover fatigue by using makeup
By Guest Blogger, Nick Stokes

Most men think that women use makeup only when they wish to look pretty for opposite sex. Little do they know that eyeliners, mascaras and various foundations can be used to cover signs of fatigue and as a way to rejuvenate face. Makeup is not only a fashion statement. It is a tool that gives women a head start. Unlike men, who can be sloppy at times, women are prepared for every situation. By using proper products, you are able to go out and party all night long and then come fresh tomorrow for work.
As they say, eyes are mirror of the soul. Unfortunately, these mirrors can often be puffy, swollen and with big bags beneath them. The fact that most people look you in the eyes first time they meet you, makes it that much worse. It is really hard to cover this area. But it is possible. Since the beginning of the 20th century, when Tom Lyle Williams created Maybelline, women have a good solution for this problem. However, if you wish to fully cover signs of tiredness around your eyes, entire procedure is required.
Before you can start with different eyeliners and mascaras, you should put makeup on your skin. Having in mind that skin is the basis, everything else will be meaningless if you haven’t properly covered it. Begin by applying gel for reduction of puffiness. This substance will reduce swelling bellow your eyes. If you don’t have any cosmetic product for this particular issue, you can try old fashioned spoon or even cold tea bags. After that, you are ready to apply foundation on your skin. Use products that have color of the peach. This way, you can easily restore your natural color which was previously lost due to fatigue. Foundation needs to have small percentage of water within it. Such product will restore moisture and it will make you look fresh.
After taking care of your skin, you can start applying different products on your eyelashes. High quality makeup, such as Maybelline, can give you completely new look. But, you need to be very careful when purchasing mascara. When we are tired, our eyes tend to be watery. This means that tears can easily make a real mess of your face. Always purchase mascara that is waterproof. Eye shadows should be in a light color, such as champagne or pearl white. It is also possible to use products that have shimmer in order to restore glow. The most common sign of fatigue are red lines that appear on our eyes. Purchase eye drops that can reduce irritation. Good thing about eye drops is that you can carry them in your purse and use them at work.
If you wish to prepare for a big day and you think that your eyelashes are not ready for it, you can use products such as Latisse. It can increase volume of your eyelashes diverting people from your eyes. Unlike other cosmetic products, this one has medical purpose as well, so you won’t be able to get it in your regular cosmetic shop. Online suppliers such as Medica Depot are the best place to purchase it.

How Maybelline changed the cosmetic industry

Make-up is as old as the first civilizations. From the beginning of time, people loved to alter their appearance by putting various mixtures on their face. This is something that lasted and persisted through centuries. It is within our nature to try and improve the way we look. It gives us a necessary confidence and makes us more attractive to opposite sex. Today, it is an unavoidable part of our culture and important aspect of every woman’s life.

“Maybe she’s born with it. Maybe it’s Maybelline”

Chicago from 1915
http://www.choosechicago.com/blog/post/2013/10/Haunted-Chicago-The-Most-Supernatural-Locations-in-Chicago/1068/

The real cosmetic revolution started at the turn of 19th century. First beauty salons opened their doors to customers and the first franchises started appearing all over the USA. Almost at the same time, in 1915, Tom Lyle Williams from Chicago made his first mascara. His sister Mabel gave him an idea to make this product, so in her honor, when he started selling his products; he named the newly founded company Maybelline. Williams created the first, modern mascara in 1917 and named it Maybelline Care Mascara.

During the years, company was sold and resold to many entrepreneurs. It changed its headquarters a few time, finally settling in Brooklyn, New York. Today, it is a part of gigantic conglomerate L’Oreal from Paris, France, which bought it off in 1996. This made Maybelline a global, recognizable trade mark, sold all over the world. Nowadays, similarly to many other cosmetic products, you can even find it in American and Canadian drugstores. One reputable Canadian pharmacy in Winnipeg, is You! Drugstore.

The companies such as Maybelline were pioneers of this beauty revolution. Back in the day, it was a first, real cosmetic company and it made many entrepreneurs try their luck in this field. It made our lives prettier and nicer. This is an important aspect of every woman’s life and it brings joy to many of them. As the industry progresses, we still need to see what kind of new products are we going to use in future. Hopefully, the firms will be similar like Maybelline, providing us the best that money can buy.

My guest blogger, YouTube Personality Kathryn A. Fisher, tells The Maybelline Story and gives a great Tutorial

I am a 56 year old makeup junkie with a ton of ideas to help baby boomers look fabulous! I will be producing videos about skincare and makeup aimed at my fellow over 45 crowd with an eye for bargains...I will also do DIY beauty and pretty cool giveaways. : ) I've lately been doing what is known as a "Docutorial", a combination of a documentary of the cosmetic brand and a makeup tutorial.

I've got loads of experience from using makeup throughout the years. I am a true victim of five decades of fads and makeup mistakes. Experience comes in handy!
I should get credit for the sheer guts to appear on YouTube without makeup on for my tutorials! lol
: D
I look forward to meeting new virtual sisters (and brothers)here. We can all learn from each other in this wonderful beauty blogging community!

Kathy A's: MAYBELLINE History and Full Face Make Over !

Thank you Kathy for making this wonderful video of The Maybelline Story along with showing everyone how to apply Maybelline New York's products today.  I learned a couple new tricks myself and though I still love Maybelline's Great Lash, I will try Maybelline Rocket Mascara  asap.  Your YouTube Channel is great and I love your voice and camera persona.  Your voice is so calm and pleasant and your demonstration easy to follow.  Great  job!  I'm a subscriber now!!!

April 2012- Harvard University Identities Fashion Show

As Rihanna and Madonna (link) are playing in the background
the other makeup artists and I are laughing and enjoying the crazy energy behind the scenes...and we are working it!! :-)

There were two looks for the girls in the show...one was peachy and bronze...the other more ethereal with soft pinks and lilacs.

We applied the matte powder for the guys, which was very clean and minimal ...even they need makeup..sometimes...

There were so many girls of color..I was so inspired and truly loved the diversity I saw..it was beautiful. As a woman of color, I was so happy to be apart of this moment..and to see the diversity and how the makeup was just as beautiful on everyone...

Growing up in Cambridge, I've been blessed with having
many classmates, friends and coworkers of many diverse cultures. And then to see that on the runway was magical....

My favorite Maybelline mascara is Volume Express Falsies,

but right now I'm using the new Cat Eyes..love it! :-)

My new Twitter friend Eddie McGarrity has a new book out today October 1 - and it's going to be free for the first two days.

You can download from Amazon here:

amazon.com
amazon.co.uk
or amazon where you are

Don't delay - it's free for two days only!

I don't know about you, but knowing that the Holidays are only 90 day's away is hard to believe.  I'm just not ready for the commercialism of Christmas again!!  But I do love Elrood the Elf and want to introduce him to my followers.  I know he will put me in the Holiday Spirit and I bet he'll do the same for you!!!  Take advantage of this free offer today and tomorrow and get your Holiday hats ready to go!!!

Interview with Elrood the Elf.....

Eddie is so excited about this one. Elrood, his famous Elf  , normally works on the toy production line at the North Pole, but has now been given a huge promotion. He's been sent to Antarctica where the Universal Merit program has
been outsourced . Elrood visited us last week in
preparation for book launch on the
 1st of October 2012.

Eddie: Welcome, Elrood. Is this your first time in Scotland?
Elrood: You know very well it's not. I visited when the first volume of my memoirs was released.

Eddie: Ah, yes, Elrood the Elf. How is the book doing? As your biographer-
Elrood: [interrupting] - as my typist..

Eddie:[pausing] ... as your biographer, I wondered how well received it has been.
Elrood: Very well received thank you. All 5* reviews on Amazon. Loads of followers on Twitter, people like the Facebook page, and I try and keep the fans happy

Eddie: And what are fans of Elrood like?
Elrood: Crazy! ...er, don't print that.

Eddie: Moving on, what is your next book about?
Elrood: It's about me and my amazing promotion to head up the Universal Merit programme in the South Pole

Eddie: Why there?
Elrood: Well, it's one of the Polarzone economies, isn't it? They are basically going through some austerity measures so we decided to outsource the work there.

Eddie: And why were you chosen to head up this important project?
Elrood: I have a Production Excellence Award

Eddie: ...and...?
Elrood: I refer you to my earlier answer.

Eddie: [shuffling papers] Er, another question. This time from Hendogal, "Is Astrid in this one?"
Elrood: [long pause]: No comment

Eddie: ...okay. This one in from chickenlicken (where do they get these names): Any funny things happen in this new story?
Elrood: No, it's all completely serious. My life story is not for other people's amusement.

Eddie: A question from Broon: What is Universal Merit?
Elrood: It's a way of helping us decide what you get as a gift under the tree from the guy in the big red suit. It's not enough to know if someone is naughty or nice. You might be nice enough for a soft toy or nice enough for a new bike. It's a sliding scale. Think about it.

Eddie: When is the book out?
Elrood: Monday the 1st of October

Eddie: Where can we buy a copy?
Elrood: [sigh] Just put the links in, will you Eddie? You're the typist.

Eddie: Are you doing any more promotional work?
Elrood: Yes, you will be handing out leaflets and I'll be running a competition on Facebook - so keep an eye out there.

Eddie: Thanks for coming in today, Elrood.
Elrood: My pleasure, now get those spelling mistakes in the manuscript sorted out.

Thanks Eddie for giving us this adorable book that will no doubt someday be a Holiday Classic.

Speaking of Classics, be sure to try my auntie Frances' Classic Christmas desert. Yes it's even great in October!!  http://www.maybellinebook.com/search/label/Christmas%20dessert

My Guest Blogger Letty Rising had a hard time when it came to wearing Maybelline until her two daughters opened her eyes.

Letty Rising
I might be considered to be a most unlikely candidate to contribute to a blog that focuses on make-up! In truth, make-up has been something I historically could not be bothered with. Though I was a tomboy with a definite girlish streak, I never felt compelled to wear make up in my teens, or even into my 20’s. The idea of putting something on my face and then wiping it off each day seemed exhausting. From my vantage point it was repetitive, dull, and a waste of my time. Besides, I didn’t want to succumb to cultural pressure that demand I try to be someone I’m not and I believed at the time that make-up was something that society forced upon women.

Letty and her two girls, Zoe and Maisie
I recall proclaiming, “If some boy doesn't think I’m pretty just the way I am, well….I wouldn't want to be with him anyways!”

After the birth of my first daughter in my early 20’s, I decided that I wanted to buck conventional trends and dress her in androgynous clothing. I was bothered by societal pressures which insisted that girls wear pink and boys to have footballs smattered all over their clothing. I didn't want my daughter to succumb to the societal insistence of conventional beauty and glamour. I wanted her to be drawn towards things that fed her soul, not towards the superficiality of “bling:” flashy dresses, jewelry, and make up.

Letty and Zoe
You can suspect how I responded when my daughter was given an extensive make-up kit by her beloved aunt at the tender age of three! As a child born 3 days after Christmas, she was showered with a multitude of gifts during the holiday season, and I quickly saw that Auntie was not the only one who thought it would be a good idea to buy make up for my very-precocious-but-still-only-3 year-old daughter! Along came the kit from grandparents, then friends. When I gently protested (and I mean gently, as I’m not a person to make waves), the response was, “Yes, but she LOVES make up!”

Letty and Maisie
They had quietly noticed what I had been denying, in that my daughter was fascinated with the very things I tried so hard to keep away from her. We purposely had a television that only played movies, so that she would not be barraged by endless advertisements. I rarely took her to department stores and instead did much of my shopping when she was with her father or at play dates with children of my like minded friends, who all focused on organic, holistic living.

I was determined to raise a healthy,

conscious daughter who didn't conform to societal expectations of anything…including beauty.
During this crossroads moment in time, I did something that I've had to do numerous times since: I let go. I let go of my own prejudices and biases, and let my daughter enjoy what she enjoyed. And here began my intimate  relationship with make-up. It was through my daughter’s fascination and interest that I became more fascinated. After all, a little mascara to brighten the eyes, and some gloss to add shine to my lips…

Zoe with Maybelline Blush
why not? And you know what, I liked it. This isn't to say that I became an avid make-up wearer. I’m still too lazy for everyday application, but I delight in wearing it on special occasions, and even on not-so-special occasions.

I came to learn that my daughter wasn’t interested in make up so that she could please society, conform to social norms, or anything of the sort. She used make up as one of her many vehicles for self expression. She liked to change her look frequently as a child, and while I didn’t allow her to wear make-up out of the home very often, she dressed up regularly at home.
Maisie putting on Maybelline eyeliner
She loved putting together outfits, and painting her face, and she became good at it. Her younger sister shared a nearly equal amount of interest in make-up, and when she was old enough to engage in pretend play with her older sister, they were doing themselves up for imaginary weddings, parties, princess tea parties, and so on.
When the kits were used up and the luster of buying make up wore off for the relatives it was time for me to replenish their stock.
Maisie putting on  Maybelline eyeliner
I didn't know much of anything about make-up, except that I did wear just a little, some mascara, some eye liner, and a touch of lip gloss on occasion. I went to the store and bought the only make up I knew of…Maybelline. Perhaps it was the “Maybe it’s Maybelline” commercials that I listened to while sitting on my mother’s lap during episodes of General Hospital. Yes, it was. I chuckled to myself that I was a victim of the marketing strategy that preys upon comfort and familiarity. I placed my ego aside, and purchased some Maybelline make-up for my daughters, and haven’t looked back.
Zoe with Great Lash mascara
Just a few weeks ago, my youngest daughter, now 14, became aware that I was going on a sort of “date.” She says to me, “Mama, we need to put some make-up on you. Here, come sit down, so I can help you.” She pulled out my Maybelline wand, and began growing my lashes, at the same time chastising me for not trying to look my best. My 16 year old daughter chimed in: “Mom, when you put time into taking care of yourself, you feel better about yourself. It isn’t really about looking good, it’s about feeling good.”

So, my view of make-up has changed, rather drastically, because of my two greatest teachers.
Zoe and Maisie
They taught me that make-up doesn't always have to be about pleasing, or about trying too hard. They taught me that make-up can be a means for self-expression, and also, a means to feel good about ourselves. Wearing make-up doesn't have to mean that I am giving away my power to a patriarchal society that objectifies women (thank you, Women’s Studies courses in college!). It can be a means to an end for self-empowerment, and that is something I can get behind.
Letty Rising
Thank you for this adorable post Letty, you have been the teacher and the student when it comes to your two precious angels.  They say when the student is ready the teacher will come.  In your case, you had to wait until the girls were old enough to make up their eyes with Maybelline... before you were ready to follow their reflection!!!

You have beautiful expressive eyes and I love seeing them made-up with Maybelline.

You're definitely model material Letty, so flaunt it because you've got it.

        Maybe they're born with it.....Maybe it's Maybelline.
