"In the Ring with Cancer" my new blog documents my cousin Chuck Williams, BB1's fight with liver Cancer.

I've done many Blog posts about my infamous cousin Chuck Williams, known as BB1, because of his "Number one Fan" proclamation from Mike Love, of the "Beach Boys." He also ran the Santa Barbara Bowl, in the 70's and 80's, where he produced many Beach Boys concerts as well as many other well know rock bands.

BB1, is also known for being a "real car guy," owning many beautiful award winning automobiles and by his connection with Speed Vegas, a premiere car racing track just opening in Las Vegas. Racing is a hobby, but the love of his beautiful Pebble Beach Concours winning cars, is his passion.

I spent many hours writing my book, The Maybelline Story, at his beautiful home in Santa Barbara and we have always supported each other reaching our dreams.  So when Chuck, BB1, was diagnosed with liver Cancer last month, I decided to document his blow by blow experience on a Blog called
"In the Ring with Cancer."  Now everyone can check in and Cheer for him as he battles to hold the world title, "The Greatest," next to Muhammad Ali, his all time idol.

Only Superman can survive what lies ahead for BB1 and his fight with Cancer.

BB1 whips out his Superman - Man of Steal cape, after a telephone call about his upcoming Cancer Treatment. "It will change me" he said, "I feel confused, but I'm going to fight."  So, in the ring he goes with his deadly opponent.

The disturbing news was: They may get into the liver and find it's worse than expected. They may decide to take the tumor out, but he may still need a Liver Transplant. Chuck doesn't want to go in that direction. But, knows he has to do what ever it takes to beat Cancer.

One of the main questions asked by the Doctor, before being accepted for a possible Liver Transplant was, "How do you think you contacted Hep C?

When BB1 was a 15 year old kid, in 1964 he and a couple of buddies were in his friends garage making a pipe bomb to pull a prank, and it accidentally exploded in his face. Anyone else would have had their head blown off, but with quick reflexes, he turned his head and the metal hit and lodged in his chin. Blood was flying everywhere. The car windows were blown out. But, BB1 was still standing!

Wrapped in a sheet around his head he drove himself back home where his mother took one look at the blood and rushed him to the hospital. That's where the Hep C came. It was about the blood and though there was no transfusion, something happened that might not have happened today.  It sat dormant until 1999, when BB1 took a major fall and broke his ankle. After tests were made, the Hep C appeared. For the last 16 years he's had scans to test the liver with no bad results.  In September, the cirrhosis had turned to Cancer. Now only Superman can survive what lies ahead.

Stay tuned for more details BB1, fights for his life. Can he beat death? Can he come out holding the World Title? Will he hold the belt over his head?  Like the Beach Boys song goes,  "God only knows."

Mike personally makes up the Set List every night they play. How lucky it has been for me over 45+ years that I have known Mike and his Cousins and their neighbor and Friend, that forms The Beach Boys DNA.  On a couple of occasions Mike has asked for my input. My proudest moment was at the opening song Surfin' from a vintage sounding Radio Station just like the 45's sounded Back In The Day to the Curtain of The Beach Boys already on stage in the dark to a BELTING OUT of Surfin' Live-------It gives me chills and the audience thrills.

The BB1 thing is alive and well. Music-Cars-Sun-Girls just some of the parts to make the whole REEEEELY work. You are the biggest part of all---- My Cousin Sharrie.  XXX/OOO   CW  BB1

Mad Men's Don Draper continues to represent Maybelline in 1966 and 68 and Roger Sterling identify's with Beach Boys song "I Just Wasn't Made for These Times" while taking LSD in 1966

I just happened to catch this scene on Mad Men a few weeks ago and was surprised to see this 1960's Maybelline ad still up on the active client bulletin board.

Mad Men takes place in 1968 this Season. My great uncle Tom Lyle Williams had just sold the Maybelline Company to Plough Inc. December 29th, 1967.

The same Maybelline ad appeared on Mad Men,

A Question about Arron Eckhart leaving the film about Dennis Wilson called The Drummer

Hello,

I was curious as to what the status was of the upcoming biopic on Dennis Wilson ("The Drummer") and stumbled across your article. I haven't read anywhere else about Aaron Eckhart leaving the project. However, you say he did. Just wondering if you had that confirmed. Any response would be much appreciated.

Sincerely,
A Dennis Wilson Fan

I'm always happy to hear from Beach Boy Fans.  Thank you for your question.  Here is the article I found about Aaron Eckhart leaving the film, The Drummer.  Below is the link and also the link to the post I did about Dennis.  Be sure to click on the tab, Beach Boys at the top of my blog for more Beach Boy stories and pictures.

The upcoming biopic of late Beach Boy Dennis Wilson, called The Drummer, has run into a major snag with the loss of leading man and executive producer, Aaron Eckhart, who was slated to portray Wilson. Jennifer Wilson, Dennis' daughter and one of the project's producers, revealed to us that Eckhart has bowed out of the role as the Beach Boys' co-founder. Actress Vera Farmiga has signed on to play Fleetwood Mac's Christine McVie, Dennis' late-'70s love interest. Farmiga is best known for her Oscar nominated performance opposite George Clooney in 2009's Up In the Air.

BEACH BOY DENNIS WILSON MOVIE THE DRUMMER SHELVED.

Gregg Jakobson and Dennis Wilson.
"Forever," off The Sunflower Album was co-written
with Dennis' longtime friend and collaborator Gregg Jakobson.  When Dennis Wilson decided to do a solo album, Jakobson  co-producer and contributed lyrics to the many diverse tracks. "Dennis had a gift that was similar to Brian's, "says Jakobson."  He just had a great instinct for melodies and chords and he was always at the piano trying to find that next song."

"Forever," written by Dennis Wilson and
Gregg Jakobson.

Aaron Eckhart was contracted to play Dennis Wilson in a new movie called The Drummer.  However, he decided he wasn't a good enough drummer... so out of respect turned the part down.  Gregg Jakobson wants Taylor Hawkins, the drummer in the Foo Fighters, to play Dennis Wilson, but Hawkins has just been cast as Iggy Pop in a new Docu-film... so The Drummer, is now shelved and may in fact never be made... But from what I hear from my close friend Cindy Biggers, Gregg Jackobson's ex-wife.. she and Gregg have written a screenplay about Dennis Wilson and may produce it.

MIKE LOVE - CHUCK WILLIAMS "BB1" - THE BEACH BOYS CONCERT AT THE SANTA BARBARA BOWL 5-28-12

First view of the Beach Boys Concert at the Santa Barbara Bowl with BB1.

Mike Love asks Chuck Williams BB1 a couple of questions from the stage, at the Santa Barbara Bowl Monday, Memorial Day, during their 50 Year Reunion Tour.  Chuck had picked Mike Love, Al Jardine and Bruce Johnston up in his 1975 Rolls Royce with the license plate, BB1.....then parked the car right in front of the Bowl during the concert.  Mike Love makes reference to it at the beginning of the concert. (click on youtube icon to enlarge picture so you can read the ticker tape of Mike Love talking to BB1.)

More stories and pictures to come so stay tuned....

Stay tuned next week for highlights from my One Woman Show for the Beverly Hills Women's Club.  I will be featuring rare music from the Philharmonic Orchestra, playing The Beach Boys in concert.  This music is from Chuck Williams, BB1's private collection given exclusively to him from Mike Love.  It should create a nostalgic atmosphere that will make the 250 vintage pictures I'm showing, pop off the screen.

Beach Boy Dennis Wilson's Iconic Surfboard lives on with Chuck Williams, BB1.

Dennis Wilson's parent's bought him this surfboard and he learned to surf on it at Santa Cruz and Monterey, California.  Mike Love entrusted the board to Chuck Williams, BB1, in 1972 and Chuck has kept it safe in storage ever since.

After the Maybelline Company sold, BB1's parents moved to Montecito, California and Mike Love stayed with them in the Maybeck estate while looking for a house himself in 1971.  Chuck, BB1, is the Beach Boys most trusted friend and though he is a walking encyclopedia on Beach Boy memorabilia, he's never betrayed their trust or compromised his integrity in anyway.

In the early 1970's Chuck - BB1, produced concerts at the Santa Barbara Bowl and because of his close friendship with Mike Love, The Beach Boys played there several times.  Here is a poster of Beach Boys at the Bowl in 1980, with another picture of Brian Wilson with a special fan.

More about Chuck BB1 and the Beach Boys next weekend, so stay tuned if you love never before told memories of the number one Beach Boy fan.

Beach Boys with Chuck Williams having Fun, Fun, Fun, since 1970.

My Cousin, Chuck Williams, BB1, has known the Beach Boys since 1970 and is still friends with them today.

This picture of the Beach Boys was taken in
Chuck's living room, before a concert at the Santa Barbara Bowl, where Chuck produced concerts with legendary  groups for several years in the early 1970's. Chuck had the perfect background, because he owned every single album The Beach Boys ever recorded.

Mike signing Fun, Fun, Fun, 1964, remarks,
"Chuck, this is a real Gem in your collection, no ebay for BB1."

Fun, Fun, Fun - To Chuck BB1, Love Mike Love. Mike remarked, "my name wasn't on this, but it is now."

Mike and Chuck still can draw the Babe's, even in their 60's.  Mike, turned to Chuck and said, "I think she likes you!"
