                           THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL

MEET BB1 AND THE BEACH BOYS IN SANTA BARBARA.

HERE IS WHY CHUCK WILLIAMS IS BB1.

Al Jardine thanked him for getting him back in the band after a long hiatus. (More on that story tomorrow.)

Mike Love thanked him for everything he's done to help make the 50 year reunion possible and told him to drop the aka from now on and just go as BB1..... "because that's who you are".....The Beach Boys Number one fan for over 40 years.

Bruce Johnston asked BB1 about the set for the Bowl that day and BB1 said joking around, "Hey Bruce, maybe we should skip Disney Girls, what do you think?"  Bruce thought about it, then agreed the song was more for LA... not Santa Barbara and dropped his own song from the list.

Brian Wilson was sitting at the piano and BB1 noticed his left hand vibrating a little so asked if that was the hand he used to write Surfer Girl and In My Room!"  Brian looked at him, shook his head, Yes and said, "I like your face."

....More to come, stay tuned tomorrow.

ROCKIN & ROLLIN OLD SCHOOL..

With Summer here, I'm reminded of how music has always been a big part of my life...The Beach Boys, Rolling Stones, Eagles...you name it...

Music is the soundtrack for our memories and remains an American tradition today and always.

Here is my ex-husband Gene Dorney singing with his band, The Rounders in 1999, at a little bar in South Orange County called Mugs Away.  The Rounders were there from the beginning of our marriage in 1973 and played together for over 35 years.

Gene's best friend since childhood, Rick Corradini and Gene, kicking it at Muggs Away in 1999.

My last dance with The Rounders at Mugs Away, 1999.

Seven year's later, 2006, Gene and the Rounder's were still together and Rocking at Mugs Away.

Gene has been an Orange County Attorney for over 40 years and still plays in The Gene Dorney Band, in Newport Beach today.

Some of my most fun memories were dancing to The Rounders, in the 1970's, 80's, 90's.

Gene in the green t-shirt with The Rounders, before they split up last year and he formed The Gene Dorney Band.

Living in Southern California all my life has been an Endless Summer with music, cars, the beach and trying to stay forever young.  I hope you are enjoying The Maybelline Docu-Blog.... tell your friends to check in and of course be sure to buy my book.....The Maybelline Story and the Spirited Family Dynasty Behind It...you will love seeing the world through my Maybelline eyes.

TRAVOLTA - ALI - THE BEACH BOYS - DONNA SUMMER - CARROLL SHELBY - CHUCK WILLIAMS AKA BB1

On New years Eve, 1980, Gene, Georgia and I drove to
Santa Barbara to visit my cousin Chuck for the weekend.  Chuck was well known around Montecito..... not just because he was from the Maybelline family, but because he managed the Santa Barbara bowl and was personal friends with the Beach Boys.  He also had a charisma that gravitated celebrities and always seemed to be in the right place at the right time.  Here is one of my favorite memories of him in action.

This is what  John Travolta looked like on New Years Eve, 1980.
Seen here with Catherine Deneuve and Gerard  Depardieu.

We met Chuck at The Old World Cafe, in Santa Barbara for a quick burger, before heading to his house to bring in 1981.  After dinner Chuck
got up to go to the bathroom while we finished up and got ready to leave.  When he returned he was with this really cute guy, who I thought was one of his buddies, by the way they were joking around.  But It turns out the cute guy was no other than.....

John Travolta, who was starring in
Urban Cowboy that year and having dinner with
Muhammad Ali and his family in a private room,
 right next to us.
John Travolta, in Urban Cowboy, 1980.
Chuck introduced him to us, saying they just met for the first time in the bathroom. Travolta seemed taken with three year old Georgia and said, "what a beautiful child," than asked if he could take her to meet Ali, (who just happened to be Chuck's all time idol.)

Muhammad Ali in 1980.

Travolta took Georgia's hand and led her into the private room, where Ali and his wife and children were dining.  We didn't go in, but stood at the door and watched as Ali said,  "My My, what a purtty little girl you are" and asked her if he could pick her up.  She shook her head yes and he lifted her up onto his lap and looked at her big blue eyes up close.  It was a thrill for Gene, Chuck and me to see the world's greatest heavyweight boxer of all time,

make over our baby girl.

Another time, at a Beach Boy concert at the Santa Barbara Bowl, Chuck introduced Georgia to Brian Wilson and he posed for a picture with his arm on her shoulder.  Chuck still has the picture hanging in his office 30 years later.

Chuck with his fan club.
My cousin Chuck aka BB1, or Beach Boy 1.....meaning number one Beach Boy Fan, according to his friend Mike Love, lead singer of the Beach Boys, is still a celebrity in Montecito..... but when he bought his Factory 5, Cobra in 2009 his status shot to the moon.
Chuck Williams Factory 5 Cobra.
There is no other car that can rival the King Cobra or turn heads, give double takes or draw chicks like Carroll Shelby's blue and white striped convertible racing car.  The Cobra will go down in history.....Like Muhammad Ali and the Beach Boys.....as "the greatest" car ever!!!!

Carroll Shelby's personal $5,500,000.00
427 Cobra, at Barrett Jackson classic car auction.

The Beach Boy's 2012, 50th Anniversary tour. If you're at the Santa Barbara Bowl, May 28th for the 6:00 Beach Boy concert look for Chuck and his entourage near the front row and say hi.....

Maybelline Family cruising down the highway in Dad's 1961 Limo.

Georgia, Sharrie eating an apple and Preston at Casa Guillermo, Palm Springs California, 1982.

One of the most fun car's in my dad's collection was his 1961 Limousine - he said had belonged to President Ford - a Palm Springs resident himself.  The Limo had places to put two little American Flags on the hood and on Memorial Day and the 4th of July Dad had the flags flying, while he sped down the highway, if only to go to the market.

One of my best memories was going to the drive-in with the whole family including my 5 month old baby daughter in her car seat.  Dad put red roses from his garden in the little etched vases that were attached to the inside of the car in the back seat,  He liked the smell he said and of course red was Maybelline's colors.  I felt like we were Vampires cruising low in the night, quietly slipping into a slot next to other cars, who did double takes at the big old Limo packed with the family.  Dad always brought his martini shaker and a glass to watch the picture in style, while my baby girl sucked her bottle, Preston popped open a beer and Gloria my dad's future wife, took goodies out of a picnic basket.  We all liked to talk a lot, so more gabbing and laughing went on then picture watching, but I have to say it was more fun being in that Limo, up close and personal with my dad and family than any nightclub in town with a hot date.  Family was everything to us and still is.

When my sister Billee got married in 1998 Dad detailed the Limo inside and out and drove the "out of town family," to my house for a cocktail party before the rehearsal dinner.   He was always a kick and kept everyone in stitches with is hysterical antics.

Dad the Limo driver getting ready to pick up his guests and drive them to my home for cocktails.

My dad, Bill Williams, Father of the Bride looking like a million bucks as always in his Tux.

My Cousin Chuck, the "car-guy" in the family today, with me to the right and Billee's bridesmaids getting in the car.

Cousin Chuck at the wheel with me by his side. What's playing on the stereo?  The Beach Boy's of course - singing "Wouldn't it be Nice."    -  Click here to listen to whats playing while we cruise in the Limo down Pacific Coast Hwy with the sun glistening off the Pacific Ocean.

The day the limo was sold at the estate-sale in 2004, along with all of dad's incredible car's, was a sad day indeed.  But for over 35 years at Casa Guillermo, we made the most fun memories and had the time of our lives in Daddy's Cars.

The Beach Boy's said it best, "and we'll have fun fun fun till Daddy takes the T-Bird away!!"

Maybelline Heir Chuck Williams with the Beach Boys at Reagan's 100 year Birthday celebration

Chuck Williams with The Beach Boy's at Ronald Reagan's 100th Birthday celebration, 2-5-11 at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley   -   Bruce Johnston, Chuck Williams, Al Jardine and Mike Love at Air Force One.

Chuck is Maybelline Founder Tom Lyle Williams's great nephew and Noel J. Williams grandson.  All I can say is it must be in his DNA - all the charisma and natural talent passed on to my cousin Chuck, giving him the ability to make things happen.

Along with his long list of accomplishments,  Chuck has been a part of the Beach Boy's, behind the scene for over 40 years and is one of Mike Love's most trusted friends and number one Beach Boy fan.  He never misses a Beach Boy concert and has kept perfect accounts of Beach Boy history since the early 1960's.  He has been asked many times to write his own book about his life in the Maybelline family as well as his life with "The Boy's,"  but is too modest to exploit himself and his many wonderful stories.  But who knows with enough encouragement we may have another memoir in the making if I have anything to say about it.

In the 1970's Chuck ran the Santa Barbara Bowl, where he produced not only Beach Boy concerts but some of the biggest bands in the industry.  Today he lives quietly in Santa Barbara where he collects classic cars and maintains a Beach Boy memorabilia room at his estate.

He is a local celebrity in Montecito and can be found each day surrounded by friends asking questions about his latest exciting adventure.  I'm sure he's busy today with incredible stories about his experience with the Beach Boy's and their concert at the Reagan Library.
