Tama Walley and Paul Chandler are a young married couple, living and working in Mali West Africa. They are striving to make a difference in the world, while making their dreams a reality.
Tama designs her dresses, using Malian cloth, takes her patterns and cloth to Bali, where she teaches yoga and massage, and has them sewn into the most adorable sun dresses.
Tama, also designs her own Mali Bags, and brings them to the United States and sells them during the Summer. A few are left for purchase at www.maybellinestory.com.
She also has a line of Mother and Baby, Summer dresses, that are head turning and I hope to have available at the Maybelline Store Summer 2012.
How cute are these little girl dresses that match Mom's African print Summer Dresses.
Tama and I met in Maui, while we were doing Bikram Yoga during the Summer of 2003. She was in the process of purchasing the Bikram Yoga Studio, and encouraged me to become Bikram Yoga instructor my self. It was during this process, I decided to finish The Maybelline Story, and not go to Bikram Teacher Training.
Tama and her husband Paul started a non-profit Charity in Mali called Instruments 4 Africa. Lister to her speak while touring the Togola community center.
Instruments 4 Africa is partnering with the Togola Community Center in Bamako, Mali to provide quality education and mentoring. A portion of the money from Tama's dresses and bags, goes directly to Instruments 4 Africa, and because of her incredible mission to help raise the quality of life for her kids, I have donated portion of every Maybelline Story as well.

Stay tuned for updates as they set out to visit local tribes and collect ancient memories.
The Tom Lyle Williams Foundation, still gives to charity, 43 years after the sale of the Maybelline Company.
Tom Lyle Williams, with his niece Annette Williams-Corbett, in 1968, after the sale of the Maybelline Company. Like her uncle, Annette believed in preserving her new wealth through non-profit foundations. She worked as a secretary for the Maybelline Company before marrying George Corbett in the late 1940's and continued to have a unique relationship wih her boss (and uncle,) incorporating his values throughout her long life. Tom Lyle believed that the more he gave to others, the more came back to him, 10 fold. "Don't lend money if you can't afford to give it, with no expectation of return," was a statement he lived by his entire life. His fondation still gives and lives on today helping those in need.
Read more about Tom Lyle and his unusual generosity in The Maybelline Story. Also we still have a few Tama Bags and Maybelline book, at http://www.maybellinebook.com/ for $50. A good portion of profit from the bag and book goes to Instruments 4 Africa to help young girls in Mali, West Africa, have the opportunity gain an education.
Here I am with my friends Paul Chandler and Tama Walley, the founders of Instruments 4 Africa, looking at a few vintage pictures of old Hollywood in The Maybelline Story. Tama and Paul head back to Mali, West Africa in a couple of weeks after spending the Summer raising money for their charity. Paul plans to film a documentary on tribal instruments and Mallian music, that is on the verge of being lost forever. I will keep you posted on his progress. A portion of the Maybelline Story goes to help young girls in Mali gain an education and study their cultural arts.
There is nothing better than reaching out and giving a child in need a hand up. It is true, by serving others, we experience pure joy...there is nothing that can compare.
Instruments 4 Africa (501c-3)is a small, grassroots organization....100% volunteer managed by a group of dedicated Americans living and working in Bamako,Mali, West Africa. They have been building relationships based on trust in the local Malian community since 2003. Because of this, Instruments 4 Africa is able to work directly with underprivileged kids and their families. 100% of the donations received by Instruments 4 Africa go to serve the kids in the program, paying for school tuition, malaria tests and treatment medication and training in the traditional arts by Malian master teachers. The traditional culture of Mali is a vibrant living thing that brings joy and connection to a society that from the "outside looking in" seems extremely impoverished. It is important to pass on these traditions to the children, to keep hope alive. Just like the Instruments 4 Africa kids, The Maybelline Story is filled with hope and the will to keep going to reach the highest dream. To reach out to kids in Mali, please join the cause on facebook or click here to donate ! You make a difference...Thank YOU!
