All that is left of this film is the trailer. The ending is almost sublime, with the film literally going to hell in cinematic flames. Dante's Inferno, anyone?

Dear lovely readers, with this post I am asking for your help: A few weeks ago a street casting for Maybelline Switzerland took place in several Swiss cities. More than 300 stylish girls entered, me among them. Now the jury choose their nine finalists and I am so happy to tell you that I am one of them! I would love to take the next step and win the competition, be the Maybelline Switzerland ambassador for half a year and fly to New York.

Elrood: You know very well it's not. I visited when the first volume of my memoirs was released.
Eddie: Ah, yes, Elrood the Elf. How is the book doing? As your biographer-

Elrood: It's about me and my amazing promotion to head up the Universal Merit programme in the South Pole

Elrood: Well, it's one of the Polarzone economies, isn't it? They are basically going through some austerity measures so we decided to outsource the work there.

Elrood: It's a way of helping us decide what you get as a gift under the tree from the guy in the big red suit. It's not enough to know if someone is naughty or nice. You might be nice enough for a soft toy or nice enough for a new bike. It's a sliding scale. Think about it.

My grandmother known as "Miss Maybelline" in Hot Springs Arkansas in the 1970's, was killed in an unsolved arson related fire in 1978, but you'll have to read my book for the whole story.

After World War 1, nice girls didn't paint and powder themselves. However a new breed of women emerged in 1920 and that's the target market Maybelline captured.
After the end of World War I, Harry (Robert Young,) gets a job in a New York City advertising company, where he falls in love with a vivacious,independent coworker, Marvin Miles (Hedy Lamarr)... However, she cannot bring herself to fit into his traditional idea of a wife's role.
Lash-Brow-Ine, became Maybelline in 1917 and Hollywood Stars like Ethel Clayton endorsed the new eye beauty product...helping launch the idea that nice girls did make up their eyes!!
Nice girls before World War 1, aspired to make a good marriage and not have a career.
When Tom Lyle Williams founded Maybell-Laboratories and produced Lash-Brow-Ine and Maybelline he published a book called The Woman Beautiful, suggesting the virtues of beautifying your eyebrows and eyelashes .
By the 1920's Dime stores couldn't keep Maybelline stocked fast enough...Women were stepping out of the kitchen...into the workplace... painting and powdering their face's in public
and feeling quite comfortable pulling out their make up bag.
TCM was showing Hedy Lamarr and Robert Young in a classic 1941 film called, H.M.Pulham ESQ. Check out this one minute scene and you'll see the point I've been trying to make. Hedy Lamarr's character was a modern Maybelline girl in about 1918.
