Tom Lyle's flashy little yellow 1926 Kissel, what a head turner.

          Tom Lyle Williams 1926 Kissel,

Here is a picture of Tom Lyle's sister, Mabel Williams.....Maybelline's namesake.....with her new husband, Chet Hewes, on their wedding day, in 1926. The Newlywed's are posing next to Tom Lyle's new yellow 1926 Kissel.  I believe TL eventually, gave this car to his partner Emery Shaver, who in turn, gave it to Tom Lyle Jr. in 1932, when TL Jr, was a student and captain of the football team, at Duke University.

If only Tom Lyle, had kept his beautiful cars..... there might be a Maybelline car collection today.

IMAGINE DRIVING IN SUCH STYLE IN 1923

After the 1916 Paige Detroit, Tom Lyle, bought this exquisite looking automobile, I'm guessing, between.  I've been told, it's not a Packard, because it doesn't have the ox-yoke radiator design.  Any suggestions?

Tom Lyle standing on the left, his partner Emery Shaver sitting on the ground. Not sure who the lady is next to TL, but his sister Eva, (in black,) and her husband  Ches Haines, are on the right.  The fashion dates this picture between 1921 and 1925.

The fashion dates this picture around 1925.  Tom Lyle's brother Noel J. is on the far right, while their sister, Eva, is the second lady on the left.  The automobile looks custom made, like all of TL's cars.  Any suggestions from my car guy readers, please email me at maybellinebook@gmail.com.

Check in tomorrow for another one of Tom Lyle Williams, outstanding classic automobiles.

1917 Paige Detroit,"the most beautiful car in America."

                  To celebrate Tom Lyle Williams,
           116 Birthday.....Jan 19, 1896.....

My cousin, Chuck Williams, aka, BBI, and I met with Steve Snyder, of Vault Cars, at Barrett Jackson's Classic Car Auction, in Scottsdale Arizona....We discussed our great uncle's, 1940 Packard Victoria.... which has been in Steve's, father, Bill Snyder's, collection for over 40 years.

Tom Lyle Williams,

What came out of that meeting, was a decision to meet on March 18, to view the Packard Victoria and make a video, for my blog. Check this video of Chuck and Sharrie toasting Tom Lyle's 116th Birthday.

Italy scientists find skeleton that may be real Mona Lisa

Archaeologists on Tuesday July 17, 2012. unearthed a skeleton in a rare state of preservation in Florence in what they believe may be a crucial step towards unraveling the mystery of the identity of the woman with the most enigmatics mile in the world. click below for the whole story.

10 min of my Beverly Hills Women's Club presentation. It starts off with a 1947, recording of Tom Lyle Williams, doing a pretend Maybelline radio show, called Penthouse Serenade, with Rags Ragland Sr.  playing the piano, and Chester Haines, singing.

L'Oreal Paris, Maybelline New York and The Maybelline Story.

This Maybelline Story Movie, was made by L'Oreal Paris, who purchased the Maybelline company, in 1996 and renamed it, Maybelline New York, with the slogan, Maybe She's Born With It, Maybe It's Maybelline!!!

Watch the video, but be aware of some discrepancies..... Mabel Williams, wasn't trying to win over her boyfriend by having beautiful eyes.  Maybelline was first Lash-Brow-Ine in 1915 not 1913 and Tom Lyle was a young entrepreneur, not a chemist.

Mabel Williams, Maybellines namesake.

In the video, the narrator infers that this picture is of ..... Mabel's boyfriend in the middle,  and Mabel Williams.  The boyfriend is actually her father, Thomas Jefferson Williams with her brother Tom Lyle Williams on the left.  They are all standing in front of Tom Lyle's first car, parked in front of the first Maybelline building in 1916.

The Sale of the Maybelline Company completely changed my life..

While my great uncle, Tom Lyle Williams, was negotiating the sale of the Maybellne Company in 1967..... which can only be described as..... "the calm before the storm,"..... there was a special guy in my life, who helped me survive the changes, in one piece, while having fun, fun, fun.....

I met Al Hall, in January, 1967, shortly after he returned from active duty in the Marines - at the famous hot spot in West LA called The RF -  Soon I was dancing to Al's band.... The U.S. Males.... at another wild bar and dance place called The Bluebook, in Manhattan Beach.

Al's band eventually got the gig in Westwood Village at  "MOM's," the number one, most popular dance place in town, where UCLA students hung out.....
Mom's was the place to be seen!!
and I was seen there every night, dancing,
 while Al played his guitar.
It was the most fun ever!!!
Al became a positive force in my life, before and after the sale of the Maybelline Company, and kept me focused on having fun and not stressing over the changes going on in my family. This picture of us was taken in Las Vegas, late 1967, during my Ursula Andres
look alike days.

Al always challenged me to go beyond my comfort zone, which drove me crazy, but I never said no.  He took this picture of me in a cave near Santa Barbara, and though I don't look too happy, I was proud I climbed up the rocks and posed, during my Doris Day period, before the sale of the Maybelline Company.

Al took this picture of me during my Daisy Mae - Sandra Dee Period, at my grandmother, Evelyn Williams, penthouse in Marina Del Rey - Summer of 1968, after the sale of the Maybelline Company ....

While the country was going through one of the most tumultuous periods in history, I struggled as well, adjusting to my parents overnight wealth.

Here I am not too happy with Al, snapping my picture on my grandmothers deck, during one of my dinner parties given at her penthouse in the Marina.  I was in my Nancy Sinatra period, still trying to figure out who I was on the outside, but it would take years before I developed the real me inside.

Again looking slightly reluctant as Al, once again, made me pose for the camera. I was decked out for another fun night dancing at Mom's, to The U.S. Males!!!

Here we are right before I moved out of Culver City, to Lido Isle, in Newport Beach, California, in 1969.  I'm now in my Mia Farrow period, ready to embrace a new lifestyle, after my parents built a home on the water, with a 50 ft yacht moored outside in the bay.
Al and Sharrie in 1970,....at my parents 25th mock Wedding, in our new home on Lido Isle, Newport Beach.  A nightmare  experience.  Details in my book, The Maybelline Story.

From that point on my life changed so quickly it made my head spin.  But during those four wonderful, innocent, transitional years, with Al Hall, I felt safe and protected as my handsome Marine walked me to the threshold of my new life - and we said goodbye.

Read all about it in my memoir, The Maybelline Story and the Spirited Family Dynasty Behind It.  You won't be able to put it down, so don't read it in bed!

DANCING TO LIVE BANDS IN THE 1960s.
By the late 1960's, a new venue for dancing to live bands, came in the form of..... neighborhood Beer Halls.

Sharrie Williams, speaking today, in Laguna Beach California..

This Wednesday, March 7, the Woman’s Club of Laguna Beach is hosting its monthly Chic event. Join the Woman’s Club in welcoming Sharrie Williams, author of “The Maybelline Story and the Spirited Family Dynasty Behind It.”

“The Maybelline Story and the Spirited Family Dynasty Behind It,” by Sharrie Williams, is the story of Tom Lyle Williams’ vision and founding of make-up giant Maybelline Cosmetics. Transfixed by the glamor of silent films and mail-order catalogs Tom bootstraps himself up from poverty to become something more than he’d ever thought possible. After witnessing his sister Mabel, concoct a mixture of burnt cork and Vaseline, to apply to her lashes and brows, he makes a tremendous discovery – The eyes are the key. Tom realized that the way the actresses made their eyes so compelling on screen could be easily replicated with a few ingredients in their proper ratios. The roaring “20’s” and the flapper era would provide a devoted following for the eyelash and eyebrow beautifiers that Maybelline produced by the truckload. So wanton was the demand for Maybelline products that, even through the economic nightmares of the ‘30’s, the company weathered the storm, its fortunes hitched solidly to the star of patented Maybelline glamor.

SharrieWilliams, a resident of Laguna Beach for over 30 years, will bring the story to life with a presentation using vintage Maybelline ads and family photos.
